Oscar is now a week old

This is how Oscar celebrated his 1-week birthday.

Oscar was mesmerized after Karen brushed his hair.
He was a big hit at Thanksgiving dinner, even more popular than dessert. Most of the evening consisted of uninterrupted fawning by the Great Aunties, despite Oscar's firm attempts to get some sleep :)

Oscar going home tomorrow morning

Oscar is doing great. He is off his canula, and no longer on IV fluids or antibiotics. He's even been moved to a real crib. The plan is to "room in" with him tonight in a regular hospital room, and in the morning we'll be discharged. We're excited to take him home tomorrow!

Oscar was even more relaxed this afternoon, sleeping soundly without effort. He still is breathing a bit fast, but this is improving as well.

Update: Oscar breathing a lot better

Oscar is breathing a little better this morning. They took him off the CPAP machine and will be weaning him off oxygen today. Mom and baby had one-on-one time all this morning.

Oscar Kelly Voelz

Its a boy! We are happy to introduce Oscar Kelly Voelz. He was born at 1:11 PM on November 19, weighing in at 7 lbs 8 oz, and a length of 20 in. The birth went well, but shortly after he was having difficulty breathing. He was admitted to the NICU in the early evening. After a long night of procedures, his condition improved. Thankfully, an amazing team of doctors and nurses are taking good care of him.
